Sen. Harry Reid, in a pique since Karl Rove wasn't indicted, and fellow Democrats have thrown the Senate into a closed-door session, invoking Rule XXI.
"I demand on behalf of the America people that we understand why these investigations aren't being conducted," Democratic leader Harry Reid said.
Taken by surprise, Republicans derided the move as a political stunt.
"The United States Senate has been hijacked by the Democratic leadership," said Majority Leader Bill Frist. "They have no convictions, they have no principles, they have no ideas," the Republican leader said.
Reid demanded the Senate go into closed session. The public was ordered out of the chamber, the lights were dimmed, and the doors were closed. No vote is required in such circumstances.
Reid's move shone a spotlight on the continuing controversy over intelligence that President Bush cited in the run-up to the war in Iraq. Despite prewar claims, no weapons of mass destruction have been found in Iraq, and some Democrats have accused the administration of manipulating the information that was in their possession.
Reid will be getting kudos in Kostown tonight, and I guess that's worth something, but I don't think he's likely to get anywhere. This is really a cheap stunt. Reid would do better to make his points (some of which are valid), now get this...IN FRONT OF CAMERAS. How stupid is Harry? This just shows that he and the Democratic leadership can't do politics, can't make a point without looking like children and shouldn't be allowed to run the party. When will we get a Democratic leader worth listening to?

Reid said the American people deserved to know the details... then he demanded they leave the chambers.
The Democratic party is being run by five year olds.
And my darling Senator "Never met a microphone I didn't love" was the first out of the locked doors to offer up his opinion...
Come to think of it I can never remember Shumer NOT having an opinion on something.

There will be a Democratic leader worth listening to when one has something to say. For five years they have done nothing but complain, they have offered no solutions.

It would be a lot harder to misrepresent what actually goes on when the doors are closed afterwards if the cameras were rolling during the proceedings.

I thought Democrats had already shot off both of their feet... I guess there was a toe left.
