George Voinovich and Chuck Hagel (no surprise) expressed "reservations" about the confirmation of John Bolton to be Ambassador to the UN. Chuck Hagel's waffling I can understand. He never met an issue he didn't confuse. But Voinovich?
"I've heard enough today that I don't feel comfortable about voting for Mr. Bolton," Ohio Sen. George Voinovich said, stunning fellow Republicans who were set to push the contentious nomination through the committee on a party-line vote.
Without Voinovich's support, Bolton's nomination faced being bottled up in the committee on a 9-9 tie vote that would not advance it to the full Senate.
So okay, George, just what did you hear today? That he forced a secretary to make coffee? That he sold nuclear secrets to the Chinese? (Oh wait, that was Al Gore, right?) What is it?
They pressed to delay the committee's vote to give lawmakers more time to consider information that became available since last week's confirmation hearings.
This was the Dem's strategy all along and it seems to have worked. The best case scenario now looks like the Bolton nomination will come out of committee with no recommendation and will be passed by a party-line vote.
Meanwhile, George W. Bush is nowhere to be heard. This is too important for the president to be caught napping.
Where's George?
Which George?
Take your pick.
